How to improve communication skills?

   One of the most important issues for the society is how to properly form or develop the ability to communicate. But in general, what is the communication skill? Communication skill is one of the vital skills of the modern world. Most studies show that one of the most important qualities expected of candidates in the recent recruitment process is communication skills. Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person, or group to another. The exchange of information and communication is a key factor in shaping us as a society. The question is, what are the important points in the communication process? And what should we focus on the most?

Now I will clarify a few factors we need to pay attention to when communicating.

  • Ability to listen;

  • Proper use of body language-gestures and facial expressions;

  • Communication method;

  • Confidence.

   To develop communication skills, you must first listen carefully to the person in front of you and make inferences. The ability to listen, or the listening skill, must be strongly formed in each person. You must pay attention to the concept of speeches in the certain meetings, discussions, interviews and it is necessary to listen carefully to the speaker and finally express the correct opinion. Treat to your colloquists respectfully. Pay attention to what they say, give them comprehensive questions. Don’t hesitate to repeat what they say. You will understand opponent better and give suitable answers under favor of active listening.

Body language- correct utilization of gestures and mimics

   Studies show that speaking is only 35% of the total communication when we communicate with someone. 65% of it comprises elements of visual communication. Professional psychologists explain to us the meaning of some gestures and mimics that are most often used in dialogues. But the most important point needs to be emphasized. Don’t forget that sincerity is the key to communication. Try not to make your actions look artificial or unnatural while applying what you know.

  1. The gesture of "open hands" means sincerity. During the conversation, sometimes one or both hands are in the open position. It's as if a person opens his heart to you.

  2. By unbuttoning or removing your jacket, you express sympathy for your interlocutor.

  3. It means that a person's hands are relaxed so that he feels calm, relaxed and confident.

  4. When listening to the conversation, the person's head involuntarily tilts to the side.

Communication method

   Of course, one of the most important points is the format and conditions of communication. For example, face-to-face communication is more suitable for determinative, serios discussions.  Such cases include career discussions, changes in working conditions, and etc. it is important to be candid and certain during communication. Oral communication must be neither too long, nor too short. Express yourself as clear, concise, concrete as possible. Say concretely what you want to say to opposite side. Otherwise, your audience may not understand the key idea you want to say and express.

Confidence

   Giving confidence to opposite side plays important role in every discussion. One of the major factors in communication is to be sure of what you say. This is considered the major principle in gaining the trust of opposite side. And how to treat to show confidence to the other side? Of course, you can gain confidence and trust by having detailed knowledge and information on the subject under discussion and communicating it clearly to the other party. Even if you don’t have knowledge about a certain topic, never reveal it. The best way out of this situation is to listen carefully to the discussion and analyze it to come up with an idea. When communicating with someone and speaking at certain meetings, try to feel comfortable. Be sure of what you say. You can show this confidence by eye contact, impressive voice tune, and sincere speech. Most importantly, avoid being arrogant and aggressive. The best way is preparing and structuring your speech in advance so that it will not be confusing. In this case, even if there is no written text in front of you during the speech, a description of what you want to say comes to your mind. No matter what field you work in, you study on it to succeed. It is important to increase knowledge and skills. Never give up. Any step you take to reach a goal is also a step towards self-improvement. My key advice for developing communication skills is not to be afraid to communicate.
